Adults: Weeks One & Five
Preparing our kids for life in this increasingly digital world starts with being a model we’d want them to imitate. This is a challenge no one could have prepared us for. The world is vastly different today than when we watched our own parents go about their days. It’s become normal to respond to emails at red lights, read texts from co-workers after hours, and scroll to escape moments of idleness throughout the day. In week 1, we start with small steps to help you rightly order your time and attention.
Home: Weeks Two & Six
Home can be a refuge and a compass - as long as we are intentional about who and what comes in the door. Home is a refuge; kids can endure any challenge during their day knowing there is rest and relief at home. Home is a compass; kids learn who they are and how to see themselves in the world BEST from their parents. Opening your front door to the noise, pressures, influences, and harms in the online world changes what your home is for your child. In week 2, we help you take back your home - or ensure you never surrender it - as a refuge and compass.
Experiences: Weeks Three & Seven
Minute by minute, we can easily give our children’s time away to a lesser existence. When we fill their time with digital experiences, we trade substance for convenience and character-forming hardship for risk-averting softness. Our class helps you know when to say, “Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should,” as situations arise in your child’s life - from how they communicate to what entertains them. We give you the steps and the spark to make changes now and avoid the temptation to cave later.
Community: Weeks Four & Eight
“Mom and Dad, I’m the only one.” Being a kid whose parents seem to be the only ones not giving them a device can be HARD. The ultimate purpose of our class is to help you impact your community so your child is not the only one and even help your child become an advocate for the Social Rejects way of life. In weeks 4 and 8, we guide you in initiating important conversations with friends, family, and key leaders in your kids’ spaces like school, sports, and church. It’s eye-opening and encouraging to hear people in the class share their own stories of having their minds changed by someone in their life.

Parents in every stage of raising kids. We’ve had mom/dad join together, only mom, only dad, single moms, and parents in blended families.
We’ve had groups of moms whose kids all go to school together, and adult siblings whose kids are growing up spending lots of time with their cousins.
We’ve had parents of toddlers, teenagers, preschoolers and preteens. The content is relevant no matter the ages of your kids!

Yes, the format for class is a video call with no chat function. You’ll receive a single Zoom link that gives you access to attend class at any of the four times throughout the week. We ask that you have your video turned on and be able to unmute and join the discussion. Ideally, we’d be meeting in a living room around snacks! We hope to get as close to that as the online world allows!

Each class is one hour, divided into teaching, discussion, and introducing a new assignment. Each week builds upon the last. Assignments are designed to be completed before the next class, and hearing from classmates about how it went for them is one of the best parts of the whole experience. It makes implementing small changes week by week easier, because you’re not doing it alone!
-
Attending 100% of the classes live is recommended, but most people can’t make it every single week. We’ve built in some flexibility by allowing you to request replays for up to two of the eight sessions.

Timing - With an online course, you may end up binging the content and becoming overwhelmed, not taking the time in between each lesson to do anything about what you’ve learned. Or, you could get started and then get busy, letting lots of time pass between giving it thought and taking action. This is much more than a checklist of dos and don’ts, a guide to filters and settings, or a vault of talking points. People who have taken the class share that the week in between gives them time to process and implement.
Accountability - We take action on something every week and then share with the group about how it went. This is a big help in making sure you’re motivated to make changes and proactive plans without putting them off. One reason people put these things off is because they know they’ll be met with resistance by their kids - especially if they’re walking back habits that have formed. BUT, 8 weeks is all it takes to start seeing the fruit of taking those hard steps. And with the class, you aren’t taking them alone!
Community - Your classmates will be all over the U.S., and they’ll be a short-term community so you can start feeling less alone in your efforts to go against the norm. Weeks 4 and 8 are centered around how to influence and build a community where you are - in your neighborhood, school, church, etc.!
Nuance - There’s a huge benefit to the interactions in a class setting. We love the built-in breathing room of being able to ask and answer questions as we tackle this complex and sometimes sensitive subject.
Relevancy - Things are changing on the daily. From states fighting to age-gate obscene content online, to schools considering going phone free, to artificial intelligence and spacial computing bringing new challenges on to the scene… we adapt the content for class the day-of if we need to in order to address something new.
Results - We want you to be successful in choosing the right approach to technology in your home, and because of the reasons above, we know you will be!

You’ll receive a printable workbook for taking notes, journaling progress, and taking action. You’ll also receive access to a Google Drive folder with dozens of resources and references.

That is our hope! If you can bring two friends along to make a group of 3, you’ll qualify for a discounted rate to enroll, which you can request here. We encourage your group to get together in person to stream the teaching portion and go deeper into discussion together when we’re finished online.

Our lessons reference both secular and Christian sources. The foundational arguments made in our class are built upon Christian beliefs. You do not have to be a Christian to take the class and benefit from it.
